CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer was fired late Thursday for his role 18 years ago in one of the biggest scandals in department history.
Infielder Yonny Hernández has been acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers from the Oakland Athletics for cash. The 24-year-old was 2 for 24 in 12 games this year for Arizona, which obtained him from Texas in April. He was claimed by Oakland off waivers in November, then designated for assignment on Tuesday. He has a .198 average with 13 stolen bases in 55 games with Texas and Arizona over the past two seasons.
Freshman Grace VanSlooten scored a season-best 26 points and joined Endyia Rogers and Phillipina Kyei with double-doubles and No. 16 Oregon dominated Eastern Washington 88-38. The Ducks held the Eagles to 21% shooting, had a 65-27 rebounding advantage (19-4 on the offensive end) and a 48-4 difference on points in the paint. Eastern Washington’s first points in the paint came on a layup by Camille Jentzsch with 3:57 left in the game. VanSlooten was 11-of-17 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kyei had 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds with Rogers scoring 11 with 10 boards. Jamie Loera led Eastern Washington with nine points and six rebounds.
Reilly Smith scored twice and rookie Logan Thompson made 23 saves to lead the Vegas Golden Knights to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. Smith got a short-handed goal in the second period while the last-place Blackhawks were using five forwards on their top power-play unit. He capped the scoring with an empty-netter for his 14th goal. Chandler Stephenson scored a power-play goal in the second for Vegas, and Phil Kessel tipped one home in the third. The Blackhawks have scored a total of five goals during a five-game slide. Chicago is 1-12-1 in its last 14.

Tristan da Silva scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Colorado to an 84-60 victory over North Alabama. Da Silva, who entered averaging 14.5 points and shooting 49% in his last four games, was 10 of 17 from the floor against North Alabama. KJ Simpson added 12 points for Colorado (6-5), which shot 51% (31 of 61) overall. J’Vonne Hadley and Luke O’Brien had 11 points apiece. KJ Johnson had 16 points for North Alabama (6-5), which is 0-9 against Power Five schools since moving to Division I in the 2018-19 season.

A night after making nine 3-pointers and scoring 35 points in a victory at Oklahoma City, Herro became the fourth Heat player to hit 10 3s in a game — a feat most recently accomplished by Duncan Robinson on Dec. 10, 2019. Herro was 10 of 15 from 3-point range and 13 of 20 overall. He also had six rebounds. Jimmy Butler added 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Jalen Green led Houston with 22 points on 8-of-21 shooting. Kevin Porter Jr. added 21.
